Overview

Start on the east coast, climb to the hill country, then head south to Kataragama and Yala. It is the longest pilgrimage and nature mix we offer.

Best time to visit

April to September (east), February to July (Yala), January to April (hills)

The route crosses three climates, so pick the region you care about most.

What to wear

  • Swimwear, quick-dry tees and shorts, light cotton, sandals or flip-flops, a hat and a light cover-up.
  • Temples: clothes that cover shoulders and knees, light cotton or linen, and shoes that slip off easily.
  • Carry socks for hot stone floors. Light or white colours are respectful at the Temple of the Tooth.
  • Hill country (Nuwara Eliya, Ella): a hoodie or sweater and a light jacket for evenings, long pants and closed shoes. Nights can be around 10 to 15 degrees Celsius.
  • Kandy and Colombo: light layers and comfortable walking shoes.
  • Yala safari: neutral earth tones (khaki, olive, brown), closed shoes and a hat. Avoid bright colours.
  • Sigiriya climb: breathable clothes and sturdy shoes with grip. The climb has many steps.

  • Temples: socks, a scarf or shawl.
